Imagine the peace and tranquility of Derwentwater in the very first light of each brand new day. Before the lake is filled with laughter, splashing, boats and people. Imagine, for a moment, hiring a paddleboard, kayak or canoe and gliding onto the lake in the stillness of the surroundings, before the world awakens. Witnessing the magical moment as the sun rises above the mountain and casts it glow across the water. Absorbing the sounds as the birds welcome the day in song.

Being the lovely people that we are, we’ve pledged not to keep this joy to ourselves. Now you too, can tick paddling into the sunrise off your bucket list and file it in the memory bank – and believe me, it’s a memory you will cherish for always.
Is it worth getting up at ridiculous o clock to experience this? Absolutely.
So how do you make it happen? You can book online in the usual way – just choose our sunrise paddles and you can be sure that we’ve timed the start time to fit with the sunrise. All equipment will be provided, but please do bring a towel and shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. The session will be covered by our emergency rescue service as always and we will ask you to take a phone with you to ensure that you can call for help if you need to. It’s extremely unlikely that there will be other lake users around at that time. Please book before 6pm the night before, so that we know to set our alarms to welcome you.

Hi, Its most Saturdays and Wednesdays until the end of August. We add in an extra session on Tues 24th June for Midsummer, and also Sundays in the school holidays. Cost is the same as normal hire, and depends on what boat you choose and whether you want 2hrs or 3hrs.
