The weather station is situated on the Strider catamaran at Nichol End Marine. It provides precise readings from Nichol End’s Moorings at the beautiful north end of Derwentwater. Utilizing a Davies Vantage Pro weather station, we are pleased to offer information that will be valuable not only to our team, hire & moorings customers but also to the whole community.

The wind and rain readings are collected at a height of around 8m. The water temperature sensor is placed about 10-15 cm below the water’s surface in a shaded spot. In lakes, water temperature can vary significantly with depth. This variation is especially noticeable during summer when a thermocline (a layer of rapidly changing temperature) can form. We chose 15cm to measure as the middle of the band where people are swimming.
