Please follow social distancing at all times at Nichol End. Masks must be worn inside the building unless you are exempt.
Please book your boat online. If you get stuck give us a ring. We will only accept walk in customers when we have plenty of capacity and staff time to organise it. If you want to be sure you will get a boat, and minimise queuing then please book in advance.
To allow social distancing to take place, it is essential that you arrive at the booked time. The first 5-10 minutes of the session is taken up by getting your buoyancy aid on and a briefing. Due to later bookings and the time needed to clean boats and kit after each session we may not be able to extend your session if you are late (but we will if we can).
Check in and out is outdoors at the hire desk – by the green container on the beach.
Boats and paddles etc are sprayed with sanitiser between uses,
Buoyancy aids are mandatory and are supplied. These are cleaned and sanitised between uses.
Wetsuits are available free of charge. They are freshly cleaned and sanitised. If you want a wetsuit, you either need to book a changing room / tent or be prepared to do the shuggle behind the car or a towel. Please ensure you arrive in plenty of time to get changed. Changing rooms with/without hot showers can be booked and will be available from 30 minutes before your hire until 30 minutes after your session. For more information about changing see here.
If we scramble a rescue boat due to you being very late returning, this will impact other hirees and a proportional charge may be levied. It also increases the covid risk to the customers involved and our staff – so let’s all try and avoid it.
Sanitiser is available at the entrance to the cafe, and after the till point.
There is a one way queueing system in the cafe to order – markings on the floor will point you in the right direction. (Its not clear in the picture but there is a heavy duty plastic screen between the way in and out)
For 2021 cash will only be accepted by prior arrangement, We do have contactless card terminals. We will take cash, telephone transactions and bank transfers by arrangement.
We cannot serve customers in the cafe unless every member of the party (16 or over) leaves their details for track and trace either by scanning the QR code provided or by leaving a name and phone number or email or address with our staff. Where food is taken off site this does not apply, if you are staying at Nichol End it is a legal requirement for us to follow these regulations.
Until at least Sept 2021 the cafe’s kitchen will be closed for hot food through the day. We will be offering our usual selection of freshly baked scones and cake with hot and cold drinks and ice cream.
At quieter times, you will be asked to collect your order, at busier times we will deliver your order to your table.
At all but the quietest times a different member of staff will be responsible for taking orders and handling cash to the one handling food.
All tables are outside this year (at least until autumn), but most are individual booths in tents. The pictures shown above are our tents at the end of 2020 – they will be modified for 2021 so that only 50% of the sides are covered due to updated regulations.
We made the decision in 2020 to use disposables to aid in infection control during covid, make our staffs life simpler and to free staff up for enhanced cleaning. However, we are worried about the amount of landfill this is creating. So for 2021 we have employed extra staff and once they are up to speed from June 2021 we will revert back to proper crockery. However, if you prefer disposable crockery and cutlery just ask.
We are not currently offering tuition. This will be revisited in mid august 2021.
